Maintaining the Momentum:  Fall/Winter 2005-2006

Graduate and Professional Education Thelma Walker Mitchell graduated from the Hillman Hospital School of Nursing (now part of UAB) in 1941. After earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, she devoted her public life to improving the health of others. She worked as a consultant for the Alabama State Department of Public Health, served as president of the Alabama State Nurses Association, and also volunteered as a “Pink Lady.” Mrs. Mitchell passed away in October 2001, but her legacy of unselfish
service to others continues through the Thelma Walker Mitchell Endowed Nursing Scholarship, established through a gift from her estate.
