Hazardous Waste Manifest

At some time, all labs will need to dispose of waste chemicals. Some generate large amounts of chemical waste requiring regular, scheduled pickup, such as those synthesizing proteins or other compounds. Others may not generate waste until they move or review their inventory for outdated material. No matter what the amount generated, it is critical that all materials be identified and packed properly. If you generate, handle, pack, or sign for the pickup of hazardous waste, you are required to take the CS055 Hazardous Waste Handling & Packing training.

Radioactive Waste Manifest

For radioactive waste shipments, the specific document used to identify the contents is known as the radioactive waste manifest.

This document serves multiple purposes:
  1. Identifies the radioactive materials
  2. Identifies the chemical constituents by weight
  3. Certifies that the radioactive wastes have been packaged according to the requirements of the UAB Radioisotope and Radiation Safety Committee

It should be noted that this policy applies only to radioactive solids, chemicals or biologicals. For non-radioactive chemicals or biologicals, refer to either the UAB Chemical Safety or Biosafety Manuals.
