Phase I: Strategic Planning KickoffJuly 9, 2013; Now Complete
Phase I Goal: Confirm project objectives and processes
Clarus Consulting Group was hired to engage key UAB stakeholders in a conversation to identify opportunities for UAB Online’s strategic priority areas. In the initial project task, Clarus, The Steering Committee and the Division of eLPS leadership worked together to define and confirm project objectives and processes.
Phase II: Stakeholder EngagementJuly-August 2013; Now Complete
Phase II Goal: Engage UAB stakeholders to inform the Strategic Plan’s development
As promoting internal alignment and collaboration is of utmost importance, the planning process engaged and collected feedback from key stakeholders as a first step in establishing the stakeholder understanding and buy-in that will support the success of distance education initiatives at UAB. With this in mind, a Steering Committee was selected as a cross-representation of key leaders across UAB. The Steering Committee worked together to confirm a list of stakeholders to be engaged via interviews and focus groups. Feedback collected during Phase II will be used to inform the strategic planning retreat discussions. The following interviews were conducted:
- 17 Interviews with University Administration and Deans (and anyone they selected to participate)
- 3 Focus Groups:
- Instructional Designer's Consortium
- APRC (Undergrad Academic Program Review Committee)
- ADCOM (Graduate Council Advisory Committee)
- Members of focus groups who were unable to participate in the interview were given the opportunity on this website to participate in an online survey. This survey was also open to any member of a focus group who wanted to add additional thoughts following the interview.
- A Public Survey was also available on this website to allow for any comments to be submitted from anyone who was not involved with a focus group.
Phase III: Strategic Planning RetreatScheduled for September 30, 2013 at the Alumni House
Phase III Goal: Develop the framework and overarching priorities of the Strategic Plan
This all-day strategic planning session will leverage the collective strengths and insights of the Steering Committee and other key stakeholders (approximately 75 from across campus) to support the identification of UAB Online’s strategic priorities. During this planning session, the framework and overarching priorities of the Strategic Plan, including strategic goals and objectives, will be discussed.
Phase IV: Finalize Strategic PlanFinal Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for October 14, 2013
Phase IV Goal: Finalize a Strategic Plan
Following the planning session, Clarus and the Steering Committee will develop the framework of the Strategic Plan, one that is reflective of the diagnostic results and retreat discussions. The framework elements of the Strategic Plan include an overarching strategic statement for UAB Online, with related strategic priorities, strategic goals that correspond with the priorities and objectives aligned with each strategic goal.
The final proposed strategic plan will be submitted to the Provost and President in early November.
Phase V: Implement Strategic PlanFall 2013 – Ongoing
Phase V Goal: Identify work groups to maintain a “living” Strategic Plan
Following the completion of the Strategic Plan framework, strategic priority working groups will implement a process for developing a series of action plans detailing tactics, accountability, timelines, required resources, and metrics in support of the goals and objectives within each strategic priority area.
