Research –

Research has shown that both genetics and the visual environment contribute to myopia development. My primary research interest is the interaction between genetic and environmental factors that control eye growth and susceptibility to myopia development. Current studies involve the manipulation of the visual environment in an animal model to determine the effect on eye growth, scleral biomechanics, and gene expression in the sclera, choroid, and retina. The goal of these studies is to develop practical treatments to reduce or eliminate myopia development in children.
