Our Community Eye Care program is UAB Eye Care’s outreach arm to the local community. Vision screenings are provided at many area schools and day care centers as well as at senior citizen centers and community events throughout the Birmingham Metro Area. On the UAB campus, screenings provide education and practical health information to faculty, staff, and students.

Comprehensive eye care is provided at Western Health Center in Midfield, The Foundry in Bessemer, Lovelady Center in East Lake, M-Power Ministries in Avondale, and at the United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham Adult Day Program at LincPoint, off Lakeshore Drive in Homewood. UAB Community Eye Care also partners with various campus entities to provide care to underserved citizens throughout the Birmingham metro area as well as in the Black Belt communities throughout Alabama.  Through our “Gift of Sight” event each December, we are able to provide hundreds of residents from local shelters with an eye examination and glasses.

Over the years, Community Eye Care has forged corporate and community partnerships with groups such as Vision Service Plan (VSP), Rural America Medical (RAM), Alabama Lions Sight Conservation Association, the Eye Sight Foundation of Alabama, the UAB Combined Program in Ophthalmology, the Alabama and American Optometric Associations, and the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology.

UAB Community Eye Care is always looking for new opportunities to serve Alabama citizens and communities, through screenings, examinations and education. If you have an opportunity that you would like to explore with us, please contact UAB Eye Care at 205.975.2020 and leave your contact information with the operator. Someone from Community Eye Care will return your call.
