Parking for employees is on a first-come, first-serve basis and facilities may have restrictions based on buildings they serve or job classification. A waiting list is kept on any facility that has demand greater than capacity. Hospital employees are placed in facilities based on parking policies established with the assistance of Hospital Administration. For more information on hospital employees, see the menu section to the left. If an employee is also a student, their employment status takes precedence.
Employee parking is divided into campus and remote. Campus parking includes the parking facilities throughout the campus area that are within reasonable walking distance to various buildings. Remote parking is located in two designated parking lots on the western edge of campus. A fixed shuttle route is used to distribute employees throughout the campus area.
Employees parking in facilities other than remote can request on-call access to the 5th or 6th Avenue Decks, or University Boulevard Deck, if needed. On-call access in the 5th or 6th Avenue Decks is available from 2:30 p.m. - 8 a.m. weekdays, or all day on weekends. For University Boulevard Deck, access is 5 p.m. - 7 a.m. weekdays, or all day on weekends. To add this access, call our office or fill out the request form.
All non-remote parking passes are valid in any commuter student lot (Lot 15, Deck 12, or Deck 16). Also, employees have access to Lot 5A and Deck 9 from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 a.m., weekdays or all day on weekends.
Faculty parking in the Lot 16 system have access to seven different lots. These are located on the map under "Fees & Maps". Parking in Lot 24 behind Campbell Hall is limited to the one facility and not part of the Lot 16 system. Otherwise, the information above applies to faculty parking as well. Emeritus status employees qualify for free parking in any commuter student lot. For details on the Emeritus Program, see the UAB Faculty Handbook here.
Consultants and Volunteers
Consultants or volunteers can purchase parking in available facilities if public parking decks cannot accommodate their need. Remote parking is available for this group as well. Parking can be paid by cash, check, or credit card, in advance. It can also be paid by the sponsoring department, if the consultant's contract or volunteer's agreement includes this provision.
