Student Concerns and Complaints

UAB is committed to creating an exceptional learning environment where students receive the best possible preparation for productive and meaningful careers and lives that benefit society.  Consistent with this goal, UAB welcomes students’ opinions about our policies, programs and services.  Students are always invited to share feedback about positive experiences; at the same time, they have the right at any time to file a complaint against any staff member or departmental procedure when they believe:

  • a policy or procedure was incorrectly applied or not followed
  • their rights were violated
  • they received unsatisfactory service
  • they were mistreated

Initiating an Informal Process

If you have encountered a problem with a person or a procedure in our office, you should present your concern in a timely manner.  In most instances, complaints can be resolved through an informal process beginning with talking to the individual involved or their supervisor.  Often, what is perceived to be wrongdoing may actually be a matter of miscommunication, misunderstanding, or the need to have a policy or procedure explained.  In general, you should follow these basic steps to address your concern:

  • Discuss the matter as soon as possible with the staff or department involved
  • If the issue is not resolved, then contact the supervisor or department head, request that the matter be investigated, and ask that you be contacted about the outcome of the investigation

You can reach us regarding your concern or complaint by calling us at 205-934-3513, emailing at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
