News:
On November 20 and 21, 2009, the UAB Philosophy Department hosted a Metaphysics colloquium entitled, "Does scientific naturalism exclude metaphysics?" The principal speakers were Michael Friedman, Andrew Melnyck, Ron Giere, Mark Wilson, Don Ross, Daniel Dennett, JT Ismael, James Ladyman and Paul Humphries.

New faculty members:
The department is pleased to have Jackie Sullivan join the faculty. Her research interests are in philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of neuroscience.
Marshall Abrams has been appointed to the department as an Assistant Professor from August 2007. His current research focuses on relationships between biology, probability, and mind.

Minnie Randle was awarded the UAB Employee of the Month in July 2008.
