UAB Police Get Mugged Campaign
The UAB Campus Watch Program was instituted in August, 1992, as an initiative of the UAB Police Department. The Program was structured to mimic a community neighborhood watch program, using students and employees as the watchful eyes within the campus and medical center units.
A member of Campus Watch and an undercover/plain clothes police officer will perform safety and security checks in random work units throughout the campus and medical center to determine how attentive unit personnel are to strangers in the area. Personnel who demonstrate alertness to the stranger's presence will receive an "I've been mugged" coffee mug.
The Campaign's main goals are to increase crime awareness, to promote crime prevention, as well as to encourage cooperation and communication between all segments of the UAB community and the University Police Department.
At the end of each quarter, a representative from each department and building that received a mug will be photographed and featured in an upcoming UAB Campus Watch Newsletter.
