What Should You Do If You Are The Victim Of A Crime Or Assault?

  • Try not put get yourself into a situation that puts you at risk.

  • Never permit yourself to be forced into an automobile or get caught in an isolated location with a person you may feel uncomfortable with or don't really know.

  • If you are attacked, try to prevent as much injury to yourself as possible.

    • Call the police as soon as possible (if on campus call the UAB Police), and if acceptable, wait for the police to arrive at your location. When they arrive, they will begin a professional investigative protocol to ensure your personal comfort, immediate attention, and the steps necessary to successfully prosecute the suspect. The protocol includes the preservation of critical evidence at the scene and from the physician at the hospital. Your feelings and sensitivity as a survivor will always be the priority for the officers.
