Destruction of University Records Procedures
To protect the security and confidentiality of protected information created or received in the course of business, once records reach the end of their scheduled retention period, they should be disposed. These procedures outline various methods of destruction, which depend on the nature of the information stored and the medium of record storage.
Data Access Policy
This policy governs the way in which University employees are authorized to access and interact with sensitive and restricted/PHI institutional data (as categorized by UAB's Data Classification Rule). This policy complements recently revised and developed IT security policies and rules, including the Data Protection and Security Poilcy, Data Classification Rule, and Data Protection Rule.
Data Protection and Security Policy
Data (electronic) created at UAB must be protected and maintained in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws and university policies.
Digital Mass Communications and Content Policy
This policy governs the use or creation of digital mass communications or digital content in pursuit of official UAB business or in association with the UAB brand.
Definition of a Principal Investigator
This policy defines the UAB employee classification/status of a UAB employee who may serve as a principal investigator on externally sponsored grants and contracts. This policy will also help OSP’s user community understand why, in certain cases, the PI of record for the funding entity may not be the PI of record for UAB. For example, on certain training or fellowship grants, UAB designates the mentor as the PI, whereas NIH designates the student as the PI.
Dangerous Weapons and Firearms Policy
Except as otherwise stated in this policy or as otherwise allowed by law, UAB prohibits the possession, transportation, and use of firearms and other dangerous weapons on campus.
Duty to Report and Non-retaliation Policy
This policy supports the UAB Enterprise Code of Conduct and the University's commitment to maintain an open environment in which UAB Members are able to raise Good Faith concerns and assist appropriate authorities in investigating potential Wrongful Conduct.
Definition of Credit Hours
This policy establishes a consistent definition of credit hours for use throughout the university.
