DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS

All PAB Committees have as their goal the cultural enrichment and educational and personal development of UAB students. Each committee, however, attains this goal through different means. Listed below are the current PAB committees and their program statements.

Entertainment

Do you enjoy going to movies? Concerts? A good laugh at a Comedy Show? Or, just sitting back with friends at a relaxed Coffeehouse show? The UAB Entertainment Committee gives you these opportunities and more. Student volunteers assist in choosing the artists, securing the contracts, hosting entertainers, running technical equipment, and promoting and producing the shows. Past shows have included Sinbad, Carrot Top, MTV's Loveliness, Goodie Mob, Natalie Merchant, and Public Enemy. No experience is necessary to join this committee.

Black Student Awareness Committee

The Black Student Awareness committee provides programs and services to celebrate the heritage, and to commemorate the accomplishments, of Black Americans. The Committee also organizes UAB's observance of Black History Month in February. Programs include concerts, dances, art exhibits, theatrical performances, educational symposiums, and much more.

Student Talent Search

The Talent Search is a talent show for currently enrolled students. Cash prizes are awarded to the top finalists. Each year students not only write the script but also build the sets and promote the event.

Interculture

Interculture organizes and presents multicultural events on campus in order to expose faculty, and staff to a variety of cultures, including their own. Interculture also works in conjunction with other committees and departments to achieve this purpose. Examples of past events include Cinco de Mayo, the Western Shindig, Native American Celebration Day, and Australia Day. All events include an educational component such as infograms, speakers, and/or members of the ethnic or cultural group being highlighted. Membership is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Miss UAB Pageant

An officially preliminary for the Miss Alabama Pageant, the Miss UAB Pageant annually awards more than $4,000 in scholarships to its winners. The event is held in November and is open to all enrolled students. Miss UAB serves as a representative of the student body at events throughout the year.

Springfest

Springfest is an annual spring picnic and extravaganza for the entire UAB community. Besides great food and live music, the all-day event features a free carnival, volleyball, games for both children and adults, and fun in the sun!
