Subject: Athletic Team Support Group Scholarships

I.       General Guidelines

    The scholarships for athletic team support groups at UAB will be given as scholarship tuition credit. Scholarships will be awarded to UAB students currently enrolled and in good standing. These awards will be given squad members during the applicable season as listed below. The amount of award varies among groups (for example, dance team or cheerleader); see Section II.

    According to the schedule below, each adviser will submit a list of those to receive scholarships to the Assistant Vice President for Student Life (see criteria below). The appropriate amounts will be credited to the student’s account.

      1. Cheerleaders/Golden Girls/Mascots

    Scholarships are provided in recognition of the spirit and leadership demonstrated as Cheerleaders, Golden Girls, or Mascots. Partial funding of scholarships will not be permitted; however, future scholarships may be reduced for failure to meet established requirements. Each squad has its own constitution which squad members agree to uphold at selection.

      1. Blazer Pep Band

    These scholarships are funded in conjunction with the marching band through the Department of Music.

            Cheerleaders
            20 members maximum x $500 tuition credit =

     $10,000

     

            Mascots
            4 members x $500 tuition credit =

     $2,000

     

    1. Basketball

            Cheerleaders
            20 members maximum x $825 tuition credit =

     $16,500

            Mascots
            4 members x $700 tuition credit =

     $2,800

            Subtotal: 

    $31,300

    1. Golden Girls

        1. Football/Volleyball

                        $250 tuition credit, maximum members

           $3,500

        1. Basketball

                        $700 tuition credit, maximum members

             $9,800

       Subtotal:

        $13,300

       Total Scholarships:

           $44,600

      III.        Scholarship Amounts are subject to change if the funding is available (via Endowment).
