COLLECTION AND DISPOSITION OF TRASH

Background

Pillaging of trash receptacles for salvageable materials poses serious potential health and sanitation problems as well as complicating the proper disposal of waste within the University. Individuals entering the University complex for the purpose of salvaging as well as individuals departing with "salvageable materials" pose a security problem in addition to the obvious sanitary and safety hazards.

Policy Statement

No individual or group shall be authorized to collect, transport, or otherwise dispose of trash on the campus of The University of Alabama at Birmingham except as directed by the Department of Environmental Services for the University Hospitals or the Department of Building Services for the remainder of the University. Specifically prohibited is the practice of collecting aluminum and/or other salvageable materials from the trash except as authorized in writing by the director of one of the above units.
