All new part-time regular, full-time regular and full-time temporary employees are required to attend New Employee Orientation.
POLICY 117.A University
New Employee Orientation begins at 7:50 a.m. and ends at approximately 3:00 p.m. It is important that new employees attend this Orientation as soon as possible after being hired. New employees will be given a general introduction to the University, an explanation of services and programs available to them as employees, a review of University policies and procedures and will have an opportunity to sign up for their benefits. To register a new employee for orientation, call the Development and Training Office at ext. 4-3359 or the Employment Division at ext. 4-5248.
For faculty and monthly-paid staff, New Employee Orientation is available in a Web-based version. Departments wishing to make this online orientation available to their new employees should contact the Office of Development and Training for access to the program. It is important to note that employees who choose the online version are responsible for the material contained in it and for completing all documents necessary for benefits enrollment and payroll deductions.
POLICY 117.B UAB Hospital
All new Hospital employees and UAB employees working in the Hospital are required to attend Hospital Orientation within 30 days of employment or transfer into the Hospital. Hospital Orientation is held every other Monday (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM) and Tuesday (8:00 AM – 11:00 AM). New employees will be given a general introduction to the University, an explanation of services and programs available to them as employees, a review of University and Hospital policies and procedures, an overview of benefit options at UAB and an opportunity to enroll. Employee I.D. badges for Hospital employees are usually made prior to orientation, on the same day as the pre-employment physical. To register a new employee for orientation, call Hospital Human Resources at ext. 5-2063.
New hospital employees who will be working as nursing personnel (i.e. Registered Nurse, Unit Secretary, Patient Care Technician, Unit Support Specialist, Sterile Supply Technician, etc.) are required to attend an additional orientation specific to their duties.
