POLICY 119.A University
Work Study students are employed through the Office of Financial Aid. This office certifies the students' eligibility and refers them to the departments requesting student employees. The employment of other students as student assistants and graduate assistants is handled by the individual departments. For more information regarding student employment go to

POLICY 119.B UAB Hospital
All individuals working in the Hospital are hired in compliance with the standards of The Joint Commission. Student assistants, graduate assistants, interns and residents must make application and follow the regular hiring processes through Hospital Human Resources or the Graduate Medical Education Office.

The procedure for processing student employees through the HR Administrative System is the same as for any employee.
