The University makes an affirmative effort to hire individuals with disabilities. UAB has had a long standing business relationship with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS). ADRS often refers many of their consumers to UAB for employment opportunities.

Through an innovative partnership between UAB and ADRS, the Retaining a Valued Employee (RAVE) Program actively recruits qualified applicants with disabilities for a wide range of positions at UAB. In addition to consumers of ADRS, the RAVE program works with a variety of agencies and organizations, training programs, and schools to recruit qualified applicants with disabilities. The University also participates in job fairs dedicated to persons with disabilities.

The HR Disability Representative is available to provide assistance to job seekers with disabilities going through the application process. The HR Disability Representative works closely with Employment and makes referrals to job specific recruiters. The Employment Office will review applications and refer qualified applicants to the hiring departments. Requests for reasonable accommodations, in accordance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), are coordinated through the RAVE Office by the HR Disability Representative. Through the UAB-RAVE program, ADRS provides rehabilitation engineers for assessments, recommendations, and installation of up-to-date technology.

If a person with a disability is employed through the University Temporary Services, the fee charged to the department for using the Temporary Services is waived for that placement. This is done in an effort to encourage the employment of any applicants with disabilities who may be registered with Temporary Services.
