Policy 412 – Service Dates

An employee's service date is the date of initial employment with UAB unless there has been a break in service by termination of employment. Reappointment after termination requires issuance of a new service date (See Policy 413 – HR Policies and Procedures)
Changing from regular assignment category to an irregular or temporary assignment category, or vice versa, may require the adjustment of service dates. The following policies apply:
- A person who has a part-time regular appointment will retain the service date when going to full-time regular;
- A person who is full-time regular and changes to part-time regular will retain his/her service date;
- A person in the weekend plan (Assignment Category 17) who changes to part-time regular or full-time regular will retain his/her service date;
- A person changing from a full-time temporary appointment to a regular appointment, whether full-time or part-time, will retain his/her service date;
- A person changing from an irregular, student, or resident assignment to a regular assignment, or vice versa, will receive a new service date
This policy does not apply to Trainees as they are not employees of UAB.
