There are headlines around the nation and the globe about Dr. Sarah Parcak, professor of anthropology in our College of Arts and Sciences, winning the 2016 TED Prize. This is a highly prestigious award of $1 million presented annually to a leading innovator or thought leader. As many of you know, Dr. Parcak is a global pioneer in the field of remote sensing, using satellites to reveal ancient sites in Egypt and to help as well as to protect such historic sites from extensive looting. Her work has been the subject of major documentaries airing on the BBC and Discovery Channel. UAB is very proud of Dr. Parcak’s outstanding accomplishments and this well-deserved recognition of her work.
