UAB MakerSpace openingLast Tuesday I joined students and faculty at the ribbon-cutting for UAB's new MakerSpace, an outstanding student-conceived and student-run venture that promotes two key aspects of the UAB experience, innovation and entrepreneurship. It was launched by four of our undergraduates who were named last fall as University Innovation Fellows by the National Science Foundation-funded National Center for Engineering Pathways to Innovation--Rohit Borah, Murray Ladner, John Shelley and Forrest Satterfield (at right). MakerSpace is housed on the first floor of Sterne Library and offers students from all disciplines access to excellent resources and technology to explore new ideas and bring them to fruition. I enjoyed touring this new nexus for student collaboration and innovation, and we look forward to all the exciting projects it will produce.
