in the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center Mass Spectrometry/Proteomics Shared Facility:
Immediate opening for postdoctoral fellow or research associate to have primary responsibility for 2D gel image analysis; the current software is Progenesis Discovery (Nonlinear Dynamics, Ltd), but we are shifting to the Difference Gel Electrophoresis (DIGE)approach where protein mixtures are pre-labelled with fluorescent dyes, then co-electrophesed in pairs on the same gel then analyzed for differences in abundance and in position via DeCyder image analysis software (GE Healthcare).
Primary responsibility will be to implement analysis of 2D gel image datasets that are produced elsewhere in the facility; preference will be given however, to the candidate who would also enjoy optimization of methodology and development/exploration of other proteomic approaches.
While direct experience with 2D gel image analysis is highly desirable, as is hands-on experience with 2D gels, neither is required; it is recognized that proteomics technology is still relatively new. Background in biomedical research, computer science, or relevant engineering will be considered.
Interpersonal and communication skills are important; this is a facility, where we interface with multiple colleagues.
