The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce the appointment of Kimberley H. Fort as Director of Finance and Budget, effective March 14, and Lee M. Smith as Director of Customer Service/Quality Improvement, effective February 1. The appointments are part of a recent reorganization of the administrative structure of the Office of the Provost to enhance service effectiveness and promote student and faculty success.
As Director of Finance and Budget, Fort will be responsible for overseeing all financial reporting and budgeting functions under Office of the Provost purview. She will also provide critical operational support to UAB Colleges and Schools in financial planning, budgetary guidance, expenditure tracking and analysis, and finance/budget-related training. Fort, who has been with UAB for more than 17 years, has been Director of Parking and Transportation Services since 1998. In her new position, Fort will continue the work of Amy W. Evans, who will join UAB's College of Arts and Sciences as Executive Director of Administration.
In a newly-created position of Director of Customer Service/Quality Improvement, Smith will help lead development and implementation of unit-wide standards and training methodologies that ensure exceptional service and support across the academic enterprise. His focus will include re-engineering and improving student support processes, enhancing UAB student service websites and web-based support, eliminating paper forms, and integrating student support services into a "one-stop" shop. Smith has served as Web Communications Manager for the Associate Provost for Enrollment Management since July 2010 and was previously Director of Student Support Services Operations at Emory University's College of Arts and Sciences.
