We are currently seeking cardiac surgical patients to participate in the LEVO-CTS research study. The purpose of the study is to evaluate an investigational drug with the potential to improve outcomes in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass and/or heart valve surgery. Minimum eligibility requirements: Must be 18 years or older, your physician has diagnosed you with coronary vessel disease requiring bypass surgery and/or the need for heart valve surgery. Do you have a history of heart disease OR diabetes and/or other cardiovascular risk factors?  If so, you may be eligible for the REDUCE-IT trial. REDUCE-IT is a research study testing an investigational drug. Eight study visits over 5 years. Compensated up to $500. Call 205-975-7238, option 2.
You may qualify to participate in a research study to evaluate the effect of an FDA-approved medication used for rheumatoid arthritis to see its effective in reducing risk of future heart attack, stroke or cardiovascular death. Are you at least 18 years old? Have you had a heart attack or Coronary Artery Disease? Do you have type II Diabetes Mellitus or Metabolic Syndrome? Eligible study participants will receive study medications, blood pressure checks, study related physical exams and laboratory tests at no cost.  Participants will be compensated. To join the study you must: be age 50 or older; have type 2 diabetes and certain kinds of heart disease or stroke; and be able to attend 17 clinic visits and answer 9 phone contacts over a three-year trial period. The study provides an investigational medication that is taken once weekly. If eligible, you may be compensated up to $640 for completing all study visits. 205-934-2294.

You may be eligible to participate in a research study about the effect of glucose on a protein in your blood. This protein is related to heart disease. Eligible participants must be healthy men and women, African-American and Caucasians and have no history of elevated blood pressure, diabetes, heart or kidney problems.
