See the Alabama Project, an exhibit that documents moments in the lives of breast-cancer survivors, on display in the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.
In the photo series, renowned photographer David Jay illustrates the richness, passion and struggles of each woman’s experience. The black and white photos capture the places they live, surrounded by friends and family, and quiet moments when a woman stands alone.
Many of the survivors pictured were reached by community health advisers, trained by UAB, who helped them recognize the warning signs of breast cancer and access treatment. In turn, several survivors have become advocates for cancer education and prevention in their own communities.
Photos are displayed in the first floor lobby and on the second floor of the Cancer Center. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Visitors are welcome 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday through September.
