July 20 Go wild
It’s baby bird season, and you can observe the care of native wild bird patients in the Alabama Wildlife Center, which provides medical and rehabilitative care for injured and orphaned wildlife and returns them to the wild. Oak Mountain State Park, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Free with park admission.
July 21 Enter the Amazing Race
July 22 Share a cup of kindness
Volunteer any Tuesday in July at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Meet in the Campus Rec Center Lobby at 10:30 a.m. to carpool to the site.
July 23 Play in the dirt
Kindle the imagination of the little ones in your life by creating fairy gardens, worm habitats and other play-inspiring features. Bring your lunch to the free Playful Gardening event at Birmingham Botanical Gardens at 11:30 a.m.
July 24 Try different strokes
Explore body awareness in this free class that combines yoga and art. No experience is necessary, but you should bring a yoga mat. Download a flyer. This program is free and open to all UAB, UAB Medicine and VIVA employees and their immediate household members. Register at www.uab.edu/learningsystem. Class will be held 5-6:30 p.m. July 23 and 24.
July 25 Make a big splash
Get outside and enjoy the summer weather with UAB Outdoor Pursuits July 25-27 as we go rafting the Chattooga River. This wild and scenic river flows through the beautiful wilderness on the border between Georgia and South Carolina and offers Class II-III whitewater, with a big finale at Bull Sluice Rapid. Stop by the Outdoor Pursuits office and sign up before our pre-trip meeting July 22.
