Students lit a bonfire during UAB’s first homecoming in January 1979, when the Blazers celebrated homecoming during basketball season. UAB’s first homecoming for football was in October 1994. Now, UAB celebrates homecoming for an entire week, with events such as a building decoration competition, wheelchair flag football, a parade and pep rally. This year, the “Blazers United” homecoming celebration culminates when UAB Football hosts Louisiana Tech at Legion Field Oct. 7.
