Ellis assumes interim role as GM of WBHM

Kristi Lamont Ellis, director of Internal Communications and Relations at UAB, will serve as interim general manager of public radio station WBHM 90.3 beginning Oct. 1 following the retirement of longtime general manager Mike Morgan.

Dale Turnbough, associate vice president of public relations and marketing at UAB, announced the appointment Aug 30. WBHM 90.3 FM is a public service of UAB.

“We wish Mike all the best and we will miss him,” Turnbough said. “He has had a successful, 40-year career in public radio, most of it in a leadership role at WBHM, and he has played a key role in establishing the station as a respected and trusted source of news and information.”

Morgan joined the station in 1992.

Ellis joined UAB in 2005. A journalism graduate of the University of Alabama and former reporter/editor, she also has management and communications experience in the manufacturing, financial and higher education arenas. She is immediate past chair of The Literacy Council, a United Way non-profit organization that serves a five-county area in Central Alabama.

“Kristi has a passion for public radio and community service; she also has significant management, operations and non-profit fundraising experience,” Turnbough said. “She’ll make a great interim leader for WBHM.”

As “Your NPR News Station,” WBHM broadcasts in Birmingham and North Central Alabama at 90.3 FM. WSGN broadcasts to Gadsden and Northeast Alabama at 91.5 FM.
