The Department of Radiology hosts Health Career Exploring, a program for local high school students to learn about careers in health care that is an offshoot of the Boy Scouts of America’s Exploring program. Radiologists Nina Terry, M.D., and Michelle McNamara, M.D., administrative associate Sonja Jordan and senior director Verlon Salley volunteer with the program.
On the second Tuesday each month, from September to April, clinicians from various health care fields talk to students about their careers and profession and discuss the educational requirements for the field. Students earn points through activities such as arriving five minutes early, writing essays and making an end-of-year presentation; points accumulate for a chance to win a $500 scholarship.
