The Office of the IRB began using the Integrated Research Administration Portal (IRAP) on June 26, 2017.
Guidance documents have been created to help investigators and research personnel navigate IRAP and the human subjects submission process.
  • Visit the IRAP website and click on the IRAP Training button on the right side of the page for the following:
    • IRAP My Human Subjects Investigator Handbook
    • Presentation Slides from the My Human Subjects Town Hall June 2017
Here are some helpful tips for ways that you can assist the OIRB in the review of your projects:
  • Perhaps most critically, please use the IRAP Naming Conventions (see the guidance document below). Using the naming conventions is important for two primary reasons:
    • Identifying documents – human subjects projects can frequently have hundreds of documents over the life of the project. Utilizing standardized naming conventions helps both staff and board member reviewers identify documents needed to efficiently review your project.
    • Correct category – IRAP utilizes document categories for key functions. For example, the consent form approval stamp can only be applied to documents in the corresponding category. If your consent form is uploaded as a different document type, it must be changed before your approved consent form can be issued.
Disregarding these naming and category conventions will insert a delay into your review process. You may be asked to make these changes as part of your pre-review process.
  • Be sure to follow other instructions for submissions to the IRB in IRAP. The following resources are available to assist you:
    • OIRB guidance on IRAP documents below
    • Weekly help sessions – live weekly help sessions are offered by IRAP staff to assist you with general instruction or answer any questions you have about utilizing the system. Visit https://www.uab.edu/research/home/irap and click IRAP Training for details.
    • IRAP staff are available to assist you and can be reached at 975-IRAP (975-4727) or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
  • There is an e-Report available to PIs, delegates, and certain other users that will allow you to locate a correspondence that was sent through IRAP. There is a guidance document below that provides instructions on this self-service report. The IRAP team is continuing to work on additional reports that can provide valuable information to investigators and their personnel.
