RESEARCH
Salena Zellers Schmidtke, MS - BioInjury, LLC
Ms. Schmidtke founded BioInjury, a Biomechanical Research Firm in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. BioInjury is dedicated to safety research and injury prevention. BioInjury specializes in research, investigation, analysis and education on safety and biomechanical issues as well as in depth coordination with other organizations specializing in injury prevention.
Currently Ms. Schmidtke and BioInjury are teaming up with UAB‘s Southern Consortium for Injury Biomechanics (SCIB) to publish a Pediatric Injury Biomechanics Data Archive & Textbook that will specify and describe the current state of the art in pediatric injury biomechanics in the automobile crash envirionment. The objective of the pediatric archive and text is to provide an archive of information, essentially a resource for computational modelers, researchers, future rulemaking upgrades, injury criteria development, dummy development, developers of child injury interventions. In addition, consolidation of this information will avoid duplication of previous research and identify critical gaps in the data for future funding and research. Ms. Schmidtke received her Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University (1989) and her Masters of Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (1992). She has served as an adjunct faculty member of UAB’s Biomedical Engineering Department and is currently a Senior Scientist at the CDC’s Injury Control and Research Center
(ICRC) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Ms. Schmidtke has published several peer reviewed papers, given numerous presentations and has lectured on the biomechanics of injury, total joint replacement, and other vehicle safety issues.
