Positive Youth Development through Service and Leadership
Daniel Ross, Program Director at YouthServe, will provide a training on cultural
preparedness when working in communities through addressing the benefits of
volunteering, understanding diversity in communities, and how to promote change in your
community.

Speed date and find your mate! Birmingham community organizations pitch their most
interesting and challenging projects in 5 minutes or less to groups of rotating UAB faculty
and students.

Suzanne Scott Trammell, Executive Director of UAB Career & Professional Development
Series, will present on discussing service learning experiences in terms that a potential

Shannon Ammons, CEO of the Alabama Association of Non-Profits (AAN), will discuss what attributes make a non-profit an ideal community partner for a service learning course. She will also discuss the mission of the AAN as well as the trainings and services they provide.

The 2014-2015 UAB Community Outreach & Engagement Fellows (AmeriCorps VISTAs) will discuss the top 9 components and considerations for a successful service learning course.  This discussion is ideal for faculty who are interested in incorporating service learning into their classes as well as existing service learning faculty interested in gaining a new perspective.
