Fall Service Learning Expo - December 3, 2014 - 10am -12pm - Campus Rec Center
Students in fall service-learning courses will showcase their summer and fall projects in this new exposition of UAB student and community engagement collaborations. the Office of Service Learning and the School of Nursing are sponsoring a Fall Service Learning Expo on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from 10:00am-12pm at the UAB Campus Recreation Center. The purpose of this event is to not only give students presentation experience but also to showcase and celebrate the community partners and projects in summer and fall service learning courses at UAB.
Similar to the Spring and Summer Student Expos, students will present projects via poster presentations either as individuals or in groups. Students will make brief presentations about their work to judges from UAB and the community, and prizes will be awarded to the top three projects and to the project deemed the most innovative.
Student registration has now closed.
Students may set up their posters from 9:15 – 9:50am on Dec. 3rd in the Center Court of the UAB Campus Rec Center. Judging will start promptly at 10am. Students are to stand by their posters to explain their projects to judges until the judging period ends at 11:15am. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three projects and to the project deemed the most innovative.
Call for Judges
Community partners, faculty, staff, and graduate students from all fields are needed to serve as judges for this event. Please email Akil Buggs at email@example.com to register as a judge with the subject line as "Fall Expo Judge." You will be asked to serve from 9:45am to 11:15am on December 3rd. You will receive a confirmation email after registration.

Service Learning Lunchtime Discussion Series - Friday, September 12th - 11:45am - 1pm Heritage Hall 524 - REGISTER
Join us for lunch and a casual conversation with members of the inaugural class of UAB Faculty Fellows in Service Learning. In a panel discussion format, they will share their service learning course experiences and how the fellowship enhanced their service learning scholarship. We'll also have plenty of time for you to ask questions. This session is great for community partners, faculty and staff members teaching a service learning course or interested in teaching a community engaged course, or students serving as teaching assistants for service learning courses.

Join us for lunch and a conversation with Mr. Mark Farris, Director for the Center for a New Generation (CNG), the A.G. Gaston Boys and Girls Club's new after-school academic and arts enrichment program set to launch at Hayes K-8 School this month. CNG is a tuition-free after school / summer school academic and arts enrichment program providing fun, interactive, rigorous learning opportunities and ongoing support for 1st through 5th grade students at Hayes K-8 School. It is a partnership between A.G. Gaston Boys and Girls Club and the Birmingham City School System.
Faculty Fellows in Service Learning - Year End Celebration and Symposium - April 14, 2014
Join us as we recognize faculty members of the inagural Faculty Fellows in Service Learning on Monday, April 14th from 3pm - 4pm at the Abroms Engel Institute for the Visual Arts. Over the past academic year, these 11 faculty members have learned the best practices of community engaged scholarship and have integrated community-based projects into their courses. All are welcome.
