The UAB Genetic Counseling Program offers a robust education in traditional and non-traditional genetic counseling roles.  Students have personalized instruction from expert faculty in medical genetics, laboratory genetics, counseling, and the health professions.  The program’s clinical training includes opportunities in the core areas of genetic counseling as well as a multitude of specialty and multidisciplinary clinics.  Prospective students are welcome to contact us for additional information.

Genetic counseling is the process of helping people understand and adapt to the medical, psychological and familial implications of genetic contributions to disease.  This process includes genetic risk assessment, education and counseling to promote informed choices and adaptation to a genetic risk or condition.  The UAB Genetic Counseling Program provides students with a well-rounded scientific and clinical education to prepare them for the evolving field of genetic counseling.
