SHP2KYou are witnessing history at the UAB School of Health Professions.

We are experiencing unprecedented success in every key area.

More than 2,000 for the first time ever.

Each of the past two years we have experienced double digit growth! In the 2014 - 2015 school year, we saw the number of undergraduate students increase 15.9 percent and graduate students go up 14.2 percent. In the 2015 - 2016 school year, we saw the overall numbers jump 18.7 percent. Thanks to innovative programs, nationally recognized faculty and dedicated staff we are set to reach double digit growth for the third consecutive year!

Nearly 95 percent of our students return.

Our retention rate is higher than any other School or College at UAB. In fact, our retention rate is also higher than UAB as a whole. Credit again to everyone among faculty and staff that are involved in the day-to-day lives of our students. It is also a credit to the advisors who guide our students like Susan Packa and Brooke Walker who have each won national advising awards from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).

Home to UAB's highest ranked program.

Our Master of Science in Health Administration program is ranked #2 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. There is no program at UAB that is ranked higher. The MSHA program is one of five SHP programs that are ranked nationally. Did you know? Every SHP program that is eligible to be nationally ranked, is nationally ranked!
  • #2 - MSHA
  • #16 - Physician Assistant Studies
  • #20 - Physical Therapy
  • #25 - Occupational Therapy

Diversified portfolio with greater impact.

Our research funding is at a level never seen before with almost $15 million dedicated to finding solutions to some of the biggest health problems. While many Schools have seen a decrease in NIH-funding, ours has actually increased. In addition, the diversification of our portfolio has added new sources and strengthened our work substantially. We have also added, and continue to add, world-class scientists that are breaking new ground and making new discoveries which continue to bolster our efforts.
