Maqbool BookMuhammad Maqbool, Ph.D., associate professor in the Master of Science in Health Physics program, is editor and author of five (5) chapters in the newly published book “An Introduction to Medical Physics.”

The book begins with basic terminology and definitions and works step by step through all levels of learning to provide a good command of the field. It is designed for anyone who wants to develop a career in biomedical engineering, diagnostic radiology, health physics, medical physics, nuclear medicine technology, radiation dosimetry, radiation therapy and more.

“I wrote the book to cover fundamental ideas that are suitable for undergraduate and graduate level students,” said Maqbool. “I believe students will find the book to be an indispensable resource in preparations for their study and work in this field.”

The Master of Science in Health Physics program, the only one of its kind in Alabama, is housed in the UAB School of Health ProfessionsDepartment of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences. The Health Physics field focuses on protecting human life by balancing the risks and benefits of radiation as a whole and ionizing radiation specifically.
