Ashley Oliver, Janay Moore and Taryn Dunn took home the $250 prize in the inaugural "Faces of the Future: National Student Writing Contest" sponsored by ADVANCE for Respiratory Care & Sleep Medicine.

The students' article, "Membrane Ventilators: A Bridge to Lung Transplant," was featured on the magazine's website and detailed how membrane ventilation with interventional lung assist works and the advantages it can offer patients. ADVANCE editors created the contest specifically for respiratory care and sleep medicine students. Three nationally respected respiratory care educators judged the entries selecting the article that best exemplifies the new class of thought leaders.

The judges comments included, "this article stood out from all the qualified entries as one of the most interesting and well-written manuscripts. They universally praised the student authors for their creativity and attention to detail in explaining this difficult topic."

All three students graduated from the respiratory therapy program in August 2011.
