HCM student-athlete up for national NCAA award, needs your vote

Sam Serley Senior CLASS finalistSam Serley, a senior in the Health Care Management program and a middle blocker for the UAB volleyball team, is one of only 10 volleyball players from around the country to be named as finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. The award recognizes athletes who excel in community, classroom, character and competition.

 

The winner is determined by NCAA Division I coaches, national media members and fan balloting. Fan voting will count for one-third of the total. Fans can vote once per day, every day, on any electronic device that supports the Internet, until the competition ends on Nov. 26, 2012. To vote for Serley, visit the CLASS website voting page.

 

On the court, Serley leads the UAB squad this season in kills (263), blocks (131) and points (345). She currently leads Conference USA in hitting percentage (.377) and blocks per set (1.32). Serley is one of only two players in UAB history to record 1,000 kills and 500 blocks in a career – her current totals are 1,162 kills and 510 blocks.

In the classroom, Serley has a 3.75 grade point average and is a two-time C-USA All-Academic Team selection. She also sits on the UAB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
