Boger Award for Excellence in Clinical Education. The award is given annually to an individual that makes an outstanding, identifiable contribution to clinical education for the UAB Department of Physical Therapy.

Fountain, who received the award as part of the PT Pledge Ceremony on February 13, 2014, was recognized because students said none of their time with him was wasted and he excelled at treating them as equals while also teaching them as a mentor. His students said:

“He could recognize when I was struggling and then provide feedback in a manner that did not undermine my credibility in front of patients.”

“He allowed me the freedom to fail and that helped me develop because of what I learned first-hand.”

“It is apparent he cares about the future of PT and does everything in his power to make that future better.”

The award is named after Loretta R. Boger who was a clinical educator to past department chairs Marilyn Gossman and Sharon Shaw, plus many of the early faculty members of the UAB PT department including Jo Clelland, Dot Pinkston, Cara Adams and Betty Canan.
