Nominations and applications are invited for a full-time, regular, twelve-month faculty position in the School of Health Professions at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Faculty rank and tenure status are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The School of Health Professions (SHP) is one of the nation’s largest and most diverse schools of its type with more than 20 programs at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels. SHP is one of six medically focused schools in a thriving academic health center.UAB is among the highest tier of US research institutions, with total funding exceeding $503 million in 2011 and SHP is currently ranked in the top three for NIH funding for similar schools.
The UAB/Lakeshore Research Collaborative focuses on research in applied rehabilitative science, including the development and evaluation of new programmatic and service efforts, the development and validation of new supportive technologies, and seeks to identify and develop meaningful alternatives that improve life for people who have or will face chronic disabling conditions.
Lakeshore Foundation offers a wide range of fitness, recreation, athletic and education programs to children and adults who experience diagnostic conditions including spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, amputation, and visual impairment. Lakeshore Foundation also serves persons who have been diagnosed with arthritis, diabetes, chronic pain, cardiac conditions, and many other related disorders. In addition to provide services to clients, Lakeshore Foundation is also active in applied research.
The UAB School of Health Professions is seeking a biostatistician with 5 to 7 years of experience as a working statistician. A doctoral degree in Biostatistics or strongly related field is required.
This faculty position will be responsible for providing research support and analysis to the UAB/Lakeshore Research Collaborative by assisting in designing, planning, and executing research related studies. While this position will be working with and supporting the UAB/Lakeshore Research Collaborative, this position also works with faculty members in the School’s Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Rehabilitation Sciences programs.
Please note that the University of Alabama at Birmingham conducts a review of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and the General Services Administration (GSA) exclusions lists to establish eligibility for each faculty member (or postdoctoral fellow/trainee) to receive federal funding. These databases are maintained by the federal Government to identify individuals who are excluded from participating in payments by Federal programs or contracts.
Additionally, the university conducts pre-employment background investigations on final candidates including postdoctoral fellows and trainees. The review includes a criminal history background check, degree (education) verification and employment history verification. You will receive information electronically requesting your consent to allow the university to conduct this investigation. In the event that the background check has not been completed at the time your appointment begins, your appointment will be conditioned upon receipt of a background check report that is acceptable to the university.
