The UAB Nuclear Medicine Technology Alumni Association Chapter is holding its Second Annual Michael A. Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. at Vulcan Park and Museum. The money raised helps fund a $500 scholarship to a Nuclear Medicine Technology student.
The scholarship is in memoriam of Michael A. Thompson, professor of medical physics for 27 years at the UAB School of Health Professions. He suddenly passed away in January 2009 at the age of 59. He had retired in 2007 from the faculty of the UAB Nuclear Medicine Technology program after suffering with Parkinson disease.
“Michael had a certain innate ability to deliver difficult content to students in a way that made it easy to learn,” said Norm Bolus, director of the UAB NMT program. “He gave generously of his time to students to practice problem sets and go over concepts. This scholarship is a way to honor his contributions to the program.”
