Midge N. Ray, PhD, MSN, M.Ed., RN is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Services Administration and teaches in the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management Program in the areas of clinical information, medical terminology, ICD-9-CM Coding and CPT Coding. She earned graduate degrees from UAB including a Master of Science in Nursing (Maternal infant) and a Master of Arts in Education (Allied Health). Her current research activities include increasing physicians’ Chlamydial screening rates via internet continuing medical education, outcomes research using achievable benchmarks of care (ABCs), utilization and evaluation of a decision support system to impact patient safety and utilization and evaluation of distance learning in health care management curricula. Mrs. Ray is a scientist in the Center for Outcomes Effectiveness and Research and Education (COERE), board member of the St. Martin’s in the Pines Board of Trustees and a member of the American Association of Health Information Management. She is the author of several journal articles and book chapters with most recent including Health Care Systems in Health Information: Management of a Strategic Resource, 1st and 2nd edition and The Impact of Achievable Benchmarks of Care (ABCTM) on Hospital Improvement Processes, presentation at Academy for Health Services Research and Health Policy, 2001.
