The National Science Foundation has awarded a planning grant to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Schools of Health Professions and Engineering to establish a Center for Health Organization Transformation.

The UAB CHOT, which held its first industry planning meeting at UAB in 2014, is a collaboration between the Department of Health Services Administration and the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering. It relies on the knowledge and experience of healthcare leaders to conduct academic research that supports the implementation of evidence-based strategies in healthcare organizations.

Profject examples include strategies Identifying and evaluating cost effective transitions in care, evaluating implementation of care delivery innovations and assessing patient satisfaction/experience with care.

Benefits to partners include collaboration of academia and industry, participation in NSF national consortium and the leverage of funding and academic expertise.
