Jon E. Vice is currently Associate Professor and Director of Professional and Industry Relations in the Department of Health Services Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In addition, he is one of the owners of Health Teacher, an online k-12 children’s health education company. Vice retired in January, 2009 as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Children’s Hospital and Health System, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and its subsidiaries – Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Children’s Hospital and Health System Foundation, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin-Kenosha, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin-Fox Valley, Children’s Health Education Center and Children’s Research Institute. He was Chairman and President of two other subsidiaries, Seegar Health Resources and National Outcomes Center, Inc. and served as Chairman of Children’s Medical Group, Surgicenter of Greater Milwaukee, and Children’s Community Health Plan. Mr. Vice joined Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin as Executive Vice President in 1979 and was named President and CEO in 1984. Under Mr. Vice’s leadership, the Children’s organization experienced unprecedented expansion. The hospital became one of the nation’s largest and most respected regional pediatric medical centers, offering services that have national and even international recognition. Mr. Vice directed the creation of the Children’s Hospital and Health System, along with its subsidiaries to handle fundraising, professional and family education, primary medical care, clinical research and child welfare services. Mr. Vice led efforts to create a corporation jointly owned by the Medical College of Wisconsin and Children’s Hospital and Health System, comprised of more than 300 faculty pediatric specialists. He also orchestrated the acquisition of Children’s Service Society of Wisconsin and its not-for-profit subsidiary, Children’s and Family Community Partnerships, to provide child welfare management services. Prior to his arrival in Milwaukee, Mr. Vice was the Administrator of the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, from 1977 to 1979. He served as an Administrative Resident, Assistant Administrator and Associate Administrator for the Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati between 1972 and 1979. From 1971 to 1972, he served as an Assistant to the Administrator at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama while attending graduate school. A graduate of the University of Alabama, Mr. Vice also holds a Master’s Degree in Hospital and Health Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He continues to serve the university as an Adjunct Professor of the graduate program in Health Administration and as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board for the School of Health Professions.
