Christy Harris Lemak, PhD, FACHE is Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Services Administration.
Christy teaches and conducts scholarship in the areas of health care management and leadership development, with an emphasis on how leadership and organizational factors can lead to high performance in health care.
Her research includes projects to examine (1) a complex pay-for-performance incentive program for physicians in Michigan and (2) the relationships among organizational culture, management practice, and surgical outcomes in a multi-hospital surgical collaborative. Christy has extensively studied how Medicaid policy demonstrations impact hospitals, health plans, and the relationships among organizations. She is currently examining new ways of measuring hospital and system performance.
Christy’s research has been published in many outlets, including Journal of Healthcare Management, Health Services Research, Medical Care Research and Review, and the Journal of Health Services for the Poor and Underserved. She is currently Chair-Elect of the Board of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) and is Past Chair of the Academy of Management Health Care Management Division. Christy is a Board Member for the National Center for Healthcare Leadership and serves as an expert advisor to the Center for Healthcare Research and Transformation.
Previously, Christy was Associate Professor of Health Management and Policy at the University of Michigan and Associate Chair and the Michael O. and Barbara Bice Professor of Health Services Research, Management and Policy at the University of Florida. She previously worked at The Sachs Group and was a management fellow at Mercy Health Services (now Trinity Health). Christy holds a PhD in Health Services Organization and Policy from the University of Michigan, MHA and MBA degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a BS in Health Planning and Administration from the University of Illinois.
