Kay R. Clements, MA, RHIA is an Associate Professor in the Bachelors Degree Program in Health Information Management in the Department of Health Services Administration, School of Health Professions, The University of Alabama at Birmingham. She holds a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and received her Certificate in Medical Record Science from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, MS. Ms. Clements is an active member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the Clinical Coding Society (AHIMA) and has served in various positions with the Alabama Association of Health Information Management (AAHIM) Ms. Clements provides the coding instruction for the ICD-9-CM and CPT coding courses that provide essential coding skills necessary for the proper health care facility’s reimbursement in today’s health care environment. She has been a Certified Coding Specialist since 1992 and a Certified Professional Coder since 1997 and has taught evening coding class in the HIM Program for several years. Her interests include the continued development of the online coding classes and participating in future joint ventures to offer coding classes nationally.
