Eta S. Berner, Ed.D., teaches in the Master of Science in Health Informatics program and is director of the UAB Center for Health Informatics for Patient Safety/Quality (CHIPS/Q). Her current research activities include evaluation of health informatics and health services interventions. Dr. Berner is a Fellow of both the American College of Medical Informatics and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.

She has published articles in leading journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Academic Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association. She is the editor of a new book entitled Informatics Education in Healthcare: Lessons Learned as well as the book Clinical Decision Support Systems: Theory and Practice, now in its second edition.

Dr. Berner has served on several national external advisory committees related to Clinical Decision Support, has been a World Health Organization consultant, and has served in leadership positions at the national level in professional informatics and health professions educational organizations, most recently as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Medical Informatics Association.

Dr. Berner is currently a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association and the Journal of Healthcare Information Management.
