Dr. Sunil Daniel is an Obesity Medicine Physician and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He practices patient tailored obesity management at the UAB EatRight Weight Management Centre. He received his MD degree from St. George’s University, Grenada, WI and completed his training in Internal Medicine at Seton Hall University, St. Michael’s Medical Centre, Newark, NJ.

He is board certified in Internal Medicine and completed his post-doctoral fellowship training in Clinical Nutrition and Obesity Management
in the Department of Nutrition Sciences at UAB. Dr. Daniel’s research includes studying the effect of diet macro-composition on metabolic parameters post weight loss as a determinant of long term success, assessing overeating patters in patients seeking treatment for obesity, and development of a complication based medical model for staging and management of obesity. His research interests focus on weight maintenance, technology innovation to promote weight loss, and obesity in the developing world. His research background includes basic, clinical, and computational science and has extensive work experience in information technology sector. He is involved in teaching obesity and nutrition to medical students, medical residents, and dietetic interns. He is a member of American College of Physicians, The Obesity Society, and Obesity Action Coalition.
