6529Your application to the MS in Nutrition Sciences, Clinical Track - Prior Learning Option is completed through the UAB Graduate School. Please click “Admissions” for application deadlines, how to apply and admission requirements. You must have completed an undergraduate degree in nutrition/dietetics and 1200 hours of supervised practice from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. A verification certificate of the supervised practice program is required.

Application Deadlines

The MS in Nutrition Sciences, Prior Learning Option of the Clinical Track accepts admission for fall and summer terms. The application deadlines are as follows:

Fall Term: July 1*

Summer Term: April 1*

*If the deadline falls on a weekend day, then the Monday immediately following is the deadline.

Minimum Requirements

The minimum program requirements for the MS in Nutrition Sciences, Prior Learning Option of the Clinical Track are as follows:

  • Verification certificate demonstrating successful completion of 1,200 hours of supervised practice from a supervised practice program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • GRE completed in the past 5 years

Competitive candidates have:

  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and
  • A combined GRE score (verbal + quantitative) of 300.

International Students

For international students, there is an expected TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 80 (internet version), 550 (paper version), 213 (computer version) or a minimum score of 6.0 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System).

Conditional Admission

Conditional admission is available for students currently completing their supervised practice experiences. However, the verification statement must be received before you can begin taking coursework toward this degree at UAB.

The fee for international applicants is $60. The fee for domestic applicants is $45.

  • Reasons for applying to this program, including your short- and long-term professional goals
  • Training and work experiences that make you well suited for this program

Official Transcripts

Submit official transcripts from all universities and colleges attended directly to the UAB Graduate School – note that proof of degree is required. If you have earned your degree from an international university, then you are required to submit to UAB Graduate School, as part of your application, a transcript evaluation from World Education Services (WES) at www.wes.org or from Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) at https://www.ece.org/.

Letters of Recommendation

As part of your application to the UAB Graduate School, you will provide reference contact information, including email addresses. UAB Graduate School will contact each of your references. Your letters of recommendation will be submitted electronically by your references directly to the UAB Graduate School. Three letters of recommendation are required.

Official Scores

Submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) official scores directly from the testing service to the UAB Graduate School. Your application can be reviewed by the MS in Nutrition Sciences Admissions Committee only after the graduate school receives your scores. Scores may not be more than five years prior to the desired term of admission.
