Dietetic Internship 50th Anniversary Celebration
The UAB Dietetic Internship program celebrates its 50th anniversary with a series of events in March. Alumni, preceptors and special guests are invited to attend each event.
Tuesday, March 4, 2014 – Dietetic Internship Inaugural Lecture
Sarah Morgan, M.D., R.D., medical director of the UAB Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment Clinic since 1998, kicks off the DI Program’s 50th anniversary celebration with a lecture titled “Classification of Neutraceuticals: Medical Foods, Dietary Supplements and Bone.” The time and location can be found on the invitation by clicking here.
Wednesday, March 12, 2014 – Alabama Dietetic Association Annual Meeting
The annual Alabama Dietetic Association meeting returns to Birmingham March 12-14, 2014. The three-day event is for registered dietitians and other dietetic professionals in Alabama. It aims to improve the profession and the health of the communities they serve.
Thursday, March 13, 2014 – Dietetic Internship 50th Anniversary Alumni Celebration
To commemorate the historic event the DI Program invites all alumni to join them at the Birmingham Sheraton Ballroom, located at 2101 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. at 6:30 p.m. The event includes leaders from UAB and UAB Hospital, photos and timelines from the past five decades, refreshments and networking.
Wednesday, March 19, 2014 – Registered Dietitian Day at the Alabama State Capitol
The official R.D. Day in Alabama and across the U.S. is March 12, the day the ADA annual meeting begins. On Wednesday, March 19, 2014, the UAB DI Program will visit the state capitol in Montgomery to honor the proclamation. All are invited to participate.
Thursday, March 20, 2014 – Screening of documentary “Eating Alabama”
Award winning filmmaker Andrew Beck Grace, will be on the campus of UAB for a screening of his documentary “Eating Alabama.” The documentary follows one family’s quest to only eat food that is locally grown. Known as a story about why food matters it is also a story about family, community and getting to know the place you are from. It will be heldat 7:00 pm in the Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium located within the Spain-Wallace Building at 620 19th Street South.
The DI program, established even before UAB existed, was founded in 1963 as a University Hospital and Hillman Clinics based program.
