PhD Student Recieves Top Nomination

photo_2Congratulations to Ph.D. student and Graduate Assistant, Michelle Cardel and her mentor, Dr. Jose Fernandez. She has been chosen as a top finalist for the Obesity Society's Ethan Sims Young Investigator Award. This is an outstanding achievement, as almost 1,000 abstracts were submitted for review. She received high scores for her abstract, “Greater consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids are related to increased lean mass and decreased total and visceral adiposity in a racially diverse sample of children.”  As a top five finalist, she will present her abstract at The Obesity Society’s Annual Scientific Meeting, September 20-24, 2012 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas. 

The Ethan Sims Young Investigator Award recognizes excellence in research by a young investigator based on the quality of the submitted abstract.
