Deek joined the faculty at UAB in June of 2011. He graduated from the OT program at UAB in 1998 with his Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. His career began in the nursing home field, he then transitioned to the pediatric arena working in both inpatient settings, psychiatric units, and outpatient settings. Deek later accepted a position in Florida continuing his work with the pediatric population. In 2009, he moved back to South Alabama beginning a new career experience in the field of adult care burns, trauma and home health, while continuing to work with the pediatric population.

Deek is certified in Interactive Metronome, Therapeutic Listening, Sensory Integration (SIPT Certified) and is an Assistive Technology Practitioner (ATP). He has supervised multiple Level I and Level II occupational therapy students throughout his career. Deek is currently enrolled in the Graduate Certification in Low Vision Rehabilitation program at UAB. He is also a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) and the Alabama Occupational Therapy Association (ALOTA). In addition, he serves as co-chair of the Membership Committee for ALOTA. Deek’s teaching responsibilities at this time include mental health (OT 610 and OT 668) and groups and communities (OT 688), as well as assist with fieldwork placement.
